Recently, I have received this question from a Quora user "Should I leave Egypt?".
I found it very tough to answer. I ask myself the same question almost every day, especially after the recent economic problems that led to the severe decrease in the value of the Egyptian currency.
For this Quora user, I tried to give a general answer that doesn't count for these recent problems. So, for you all, young men thinking about traveling for a long time or immigration, I can’t give a straight answer for this.. but I can just recommend that you take into consideration that human happiness is not just about the quality of life.
Continuing to live in Egypt is a tough choice.. you get a very low quality of life.. bad work and business environment.. one of the worst education and health care systems in the world. beside sick political environment.. and a fragile -if not failing- economy… etc.
But the fact that you were born here in this place, between those people.. the fact that you were nurtured in this culture.. makes the choice very hard to make.
If you chose to leave.. you get a better quality of life, but you also leave a piece of yourself behind.
If you choose to stay.. you suffer, and you keep telling yourself I should have left when I could.
But, different people have different priorities.. so if you are more emotional and attached to your culture.. you will suffer more if you leave.. and if you are more pragmatic.. you will regret not leaving.
So, I just recommend that you take your time, think more, and not to just make your decision depending on the financial factors. Remember that every choice has its cons and pros, so pick the one which you need its pros most and can bear living with its cons.
